With a blink of an eye we are heading towards the middle of the year (what?) - yes, crazy but true! I think I can speak for almost all of us when I say that time seems to be speeding up day by day and the world is changing at a pace that is often beyond our comprehension. We are most certainly being pushed to evolve at a
pace never known before in the history of our evolution. Apparently there is more information in one edition of the times newspaper today than a person in the middle ages would take in in a lifetime! Yowzers, we are working hard! To add to the chaos, in the northern hemisphere we are at the time of year when energy is at its peak and, although there is that joyful celebratory energy that accompanies the summer it is also easy to spiral out of control when energy is so high and abundant.
At the peak of any cycle we are in the process of expansion. The energy of expansion has a quality that can take experiences deep into our systems and secure our beliefs, attitudes and expectations. Depending on the strength and type of the experience, this can serve to help us thrive or drop deeper into survival. You may be able to recall a time when you were feeling exhilarated and expansive and then something happened that shocked you; you may have had some bad news, fell over or hurt yourself in some way. Being in an expansive state allowed the experience to penetrate more deeply into your body memory and heighten the impact. On the positive side you can consciously use expanded states to deepen and ground in positive experiences, being in the practice of acknowledging what is good, right and working well in your life helps to create a strong foundation for your well-being. Emotions such as joy, happiness, contentment and gratitude are powerful and can help you heal from traumatic experiences, bounce back more quickly from setbacks and absorb any future shocks and surprises so you are more resilient and less affected.
And...You don’t have to wait for good things to happen
Through somatic practices you can engineer positive states that help you to develop a default setting that is more optimistic and healthy, in doing so your body becomes a spacious, safe and joyful place to live in.
Note: This isn't about putting plasters on broken legs! Attending to fears, trauma's and anxieties is a valuable and important part of the healing process. There are also times to seek help and support. However, placing your focus on positive experiences and emotions can also be an effective and powerful way to heal.
In terms of our evolution we are without a doubt at a peak in a cycle, things have reached their limits in many ways. At this time it is crucial to be aware of what we are expecting in our personal lives and the wider world. The future isn't written yet and we have a say in what will go down in history in the future, what we think, feel and do on a moment by moment basis continually creates our story and lays the foundation for the next bit of the journey.
